“A Domain of One’s Own”
The invention of such a powerful digital tool, cloud technology, has a tremendous story. It just goes to show that technology, its study, and its advancements can be done by anybody, as long as the determination and commitment are there. It is exponentially evolving and will continue to do so, so long as there are those who have a passion for the digital world. I love the idea of personal digital domains. It is innovative, engaging, and fun.
“Why ‘A Domain of One’s Own’ Matters (For the Future of Knowledge)”
I think people, myself included, often forget how immensely impressive the actual concept of “The Web” is. I imagine because my generation was born into it, we take it for granted. I definitely did before reading this article.
Twenty-eight years is also relatively very new in comparison to other forms of technology, so to see such progress made is incredible.
I believe we have become desensitised to just how much we sacrifice our personal privacy to engage online to any capacity. Perhaps we are aware of it but feel powerless to change the status quo, particularly against massive corporations who create the “streams” of social media.
I also support the notion that education has no boundaries and does not exclusively take place in schools or universities.
Conclusion:
I am thrilled to build my own personal cloud and use my platform for exploring what I find to be both important and fascinating. One can argue many social media spaces offer this kind of interaction as well, for example YouTube or Pinterest. But, the idea in relation to an academic space is new and exciting to me. It also allows students to peer review and learn from each other which is an important part of academia.
