It’s strange to acknowledge that a quarter of my time as an undergraduate university student has come to a close.
If you’ve read A Recap of my First Semester in UCC, you’ll know how I felt about my life from September to December through the lens of a university. I return today to walk you through the second semester of my first year as a Digital Humanities student in UCC.

Where should I even start? So much has happened, it’s hard to even remember all of it. Coming back to university after an entire month of holidays was strange. But, it wasn’t long before things started to get back to how it was last semester, primarily thanks to my friends. The vibes were still great.
Our new modules were nothing alien, all either continuations of a previous one or an exploration of a topic once already covered. Results from last semester were coming in slowly, and me personally? Academic weapon status solidified. But enough self-praise, let’s move on.
“Presentation Nights” had launched and my friend Liam and I decided to participate in that, launching perhaps our most iconic yet niche bit to this day, except for the notebook-DH-room-investigation, but we don’t talk about that one… ever.

The Arts Ball! That was fun, both the hype and the actual event. It was fun to dress up in a nice fancy suit and sit with my friends. That being said, it felt overcrowded and I felt like nothing was really happening. The Bangladeshi society event I attended beforehand was more fun, simply because halfway through, my friends and I just decided to chill in the DH room instead. DH room stays winning, really.

Talking about Valentine’s Day in a post about my second semester? The explanation is weirder than you might expect. My friends and I thought it would be a fun little idea to buy the entire class some flowers and chocolates for the day. It was just a nice small gesture and an excuse to go to town, but it went a lot better than expected.

THE CULTURAL BALL!!! Now this was the real event, no disrespect to the Arts Ball of course. This was the one I was most excited about. Any function is immediately and exponentially enhanced by wearing my cultural clothes.

On a real note, this was one of the most fun nights this year. The prep, the mandatory lab beforehand where we all rocked up in our fits, the bus ride, the HALAL food, the mini bits, it was all so amazing.
Aside from those things, the rest of the year was just a lot of me being dumb with my university friends.

On a more personal note, I learned a lot about myself this year.
“My hopes are that I gain as much in terms of life experience and wisdom as I do for academia and intellectual development.”
Me, A Recap of my First Semester in UCC
I think I have accomplished what I hoped to do. I went through a great deal of adversity of all kinds this year (the details of which I won’t bore you with), and I feel like I triumphed beyond expectations. I have my friends and family to thank for inspiring and uplifting me always. But also? I have to give credit to myself here too. Real change must always start from the source and I reflected hard enough to make a mirror jealous this semester. But that’s all semantics, we all know why you really came to this post: my incredible music taste!
Like last time, I have made a Spotify playlist to encapsulate the vibe of this semester. It’s not too long so take a listen and let me know what songs you felt could also be added to this list for your semester. Like the last time, I mainly tried to use songs that I listened to this semester.
“…my mantra for semester two?”

Socrates
I hope I lived by this mantra these past few months. If I had to try and encapsulate this semester in a quote, the closest I could get would be with this:
“Go Beyond! Plus Ultra!”
ALL MIGHT, MY HERO ACADEMIA
